The Burns Update

This is the story as I know it. So all the facts might not be right.
About 2 months ago a very tradic incident changed the lives of some very Godly Christian family. Nate Burns was on a trip out east for a Baptist Heritage tour with his pastor. Beth was home with Alathia, their 8 month old daughter. During that week someone called Family Services (DFS) and turned the Burns in for neglect of the Baby. If anyone has seen the baby, she is just a pietite little thing!! She is alert and a doll to be around. Well when DFS came to the door, Beth did not let them in, due to the fact that their paper work was not in order. So they said they would be back. Beth then called her husband, who is on the east coast, and wanted to know what to do. She was told not to let them in no matter what. Nate flew home immediately. Well 2 hrs later, DFS came back with a sheaf of papers. Beth answered the door, but still did not let them in. Some how DFS came in and somehow took the baby with them. The Baby then went to Columbia hospital where she under went some observation. Well surprise surprise, the baby didn't gain any weight, other than the 1/2 oz that babies normally gain!! Beth kept in contact with the nurses and got good reports back that Alathia was fine and doing well. Sometime shortly thereafter, there was a court date. By this time alot of pastors in Mo knew of this, one being a good friend of the Judge of the case. He was supposed to talk to him in defense of the Burns. Well the court decided that Alathia was to be put into foster care for 45 days until the next court date, which she was. She was placed in a home where the couple do go to the Burns church. The Burns were able to see her for 8 hr visits plus on Sunday.
Not sure what happened on that court date, so I will jump to this past weekend, June 19th. On Friday, 19th, Nate and Beth Burns along with their Pastor were arrested and put into jail. Alittle fact here, Beth is 7 months pregnant at this time. Pastor got out on bail that night, his was set at $1,000. Nate & Beth's bail was set at $25,000 each. I am not sure of the charges, other than they had neglected the baby since birth; she was born at home and had not yet been to the doctor. On Monday, 22nd, someone posted bail for both Nate and Beth. They were going to court and we were notified of this. They, friends of the Burns, wanted as many supporters to show up and be there when the Burns arrived to show our support.
Well I went up with another lady in our church. We got there at 12:30 and there were about 150 people maybe more. There were a couple news people and someone from the church videoing the whole thing. There were people from Kansas, Iowa, Ill, and of course MO. We sang "Amazing Grace" then 4 pastors prayed. We were then told that because Nate & Beth were out on a certain kind of bond they had already arrived and were inside and did not see all of us. I then left and would get more info on the case later that day. There was to be 5 hrs of testimonies on the Defense side and we didn't know what the prosecuting side had, if any.
Then around 9:00, we got a phone call saying all charges were dropped against the Burns and that they would get Alathia back in a few days. There was not enough evidence against the Burns for child neglect so they dropped the charges!! PRAISE BE THE LORD!!! The Burns do have to take Alathia to the doctor on a regular basis and allow DFS into the home for house inspections.
I know that I may not have got all the facts right but at least this is a good summery of what happened. There is good poem that was written just for this occasion, but I don't have it right now, I will post it later.

There is a newspaper article out from Kirskville that says the charges are still pending and that there is more than what I wrote here. I am sure that some of this article is not true, but there are parts that I cannot vouch for. Again my article here is all 2nd and 3rd hand information. So please be careful on what is passed on. Thank you Jessica Yoder
